A group of
about 21 MVBCH and Ferry County Chapter members enjoyed 3 days of horse camping
over the weekend of August 23rd at the Diamond Belle Ranch. The
ranch and Walker Lake are located north of Wauconda (between Tonasket and
Republic), and Steve and Cher McKinney of Tonasket were our hosts. We set up
our camp sites in a large circle, wagon train style, near the beautiful old
lodge on the site and hi-lined our horses in the trees. We had access to the
lodge, and some folks even rented rooms for the nights to enjoy the extra
comfort and luxury. We even had use of the well-equipped lodge kitchen for our
pot luck meals and our “camp breakfast” on Sunday morning!
Diamond Belle
is a private ranch with a lake for fishing, and we are very appreciative to
have been able to enjoy this beautiful area of open grassy hills and trees for
our rides. Thanks so much to Steve and Cher for “making this happen” for our 2
BCH chapters. Another “Diamond Belle Ranch Weekend” in 2014 is in view!
NOTE: We regret that Steve
Kinney had an unfortunate accident over the weekend while leading the group and
had the need for medical care on Sunday. Betty Ruff earns a very special “thank
you” for driving the McKinney’s fifth wheel to their home after the
ride on Sunday, and then returning to their home the next day to help Cher
unload. (Thanks to Betty Wagoner for
story, and Julie Johnson and Betty for photos)
