Lewis Butte Ranch Ride

On May 19th good times were had by all at this great ride and BBQ at Stacey and DK Williams’ ranch. The afternoon ride in the beautiful area above their ranch was sunny and cool, and we enjoyed spectacular mountain vistas; the ride topped off at Lewis Butte overlooking the Methow Valley and Winthrop.

After returning from the ride, Stacey and DK hosted the group to refreshments and a BBQ, with other members also bringing snacks and salads. They raffled a great saddle blanket to the group with funds to be used on expenses for the local chapter members going to the SWWP in August. Thanks for hosting us Stacey and DK!

2017 WTA/MVBCH Pot Luck Supper

On June 14th our MVBCH members hosted a steak and pot luck supper for the Washington Trails Association at Poplar Flats up Twisp River. This supper has turned into an annual event and all who join in have a great time. This is our 3rd or 4th year of hosting this event so many of “us” are getting to know many of “them”! There were about 12 WTA members and 2 Forest Service crew members, plus 9 of our own chapter members which made a sizeable group of hungry folks!

 

We brought steaks and lots of pot luck dishes to feed everyone, so all went very well. Most of the WTA volunteers come from the “west side” and hike into the wilderness to cut out trails in the Twisp River drainage with their crosscut saws for one week. Some of our chapter members had already cleared trails up to the wilderness boundary with chain saws to facilitate WTA access to the wilderness.

Not Just Sittin' Around...

On June 2nd Mike McHugh and Willie Kemper took some time out and rode up War Creek to do a little work taking care of the trail. They didn’t quite anticipate spending several hours to tackle a giant log, but when they found it blocking their way they took on the job. According to Mike, they “spent quite a bit of time with that spot!” Thanks Mike and Willie; those who come after you will appreciate your work!  

Twisp River Trail May 15th

Bill makes 2nd cut on the large log

Jan and Bill Ford had been up Twisp River Trail three times and Bill and Pete Stoothoff had been up the trail twice preparing/opening the trail for National Trails Day work. On May 15^th a large log was found laying over the trail near the Sno Park so Bill went to work on it... A while later, the log was no longer a problem! 

Patterson Mountain Ride

On May 15th Julie Johnson, Jackie Iddings and Mark Brantner enjoyed the Patterson Mountain ride. Weather was very cold but the wildflowers were out in abundance.

They had all brought their lunches, but ended up eating lunch by their rigs because it was too cold up top of the mountain!
