Updated July/August 2013
The grant awarded to the Methow Valley Ranger District (MVRD) had been frozen by the federal sequestration process for the first six months of 2013.
Only in July was the grant released, but it was cut to $8,000, half of the original amount.
The Forest Service is now proceeding with a landscape analysis and engineering of the proposed horse camp. This information will be used for the environmental analysis required for the NEPA (National Environmental Policy Act) process. During this process there will be a comment period to respond to the Forest Service findings.
At that time MVBCH will ask for letters of support to be sent to the MVRD.
Even if you previously sent a letter of support to initiate the process of developing a horse camp, it will be very important to send another. As many positive letters as possible, commenting on the NEPA report, are needed at that critical time.
