2018 Calendar Details

If the weather is "iffy", call the event contact to confirm the event is still happening.
(Sat) Jun 2  National Trails Day. Contact: Bill Ford (509-997-0133). Clean-up, brushing on Twisp River Trail. Meet at 8:30 a.m. at the Buttermilk Snow Park and head out at 9:00. DIRECTIONS: Follow the Twisp River Road for 11-11.5 miles where you will turn left to cross the river. The sign where you turn will say “West Buttermilk Creek Road”. Take the immediate right after crossing river. Go 1.2 mile up to Buttermilk Snow Park. We will disperse where needed along the 15 mile trail from the snow park. We will brush and clear the trail. Bring stout footwear, gloves, water and tools (such as loppers or pruners, shovels and saws) as well as any friends who are trail users and are willing to help.  Bring hard hats if you have them. Pot luck lunch, (the club will provide bratwursts for roasting!), and bring along a chair if you want to sit comfortably during lunch! The Twisp River Trail is maintained by the MVBCH. 
(Wed) Jun 6  MVBCH Hosts WTA Pot Luck @ Poplar Flats. Contact: Bill Ford (509-997-0133). MVBCH will host a pot luck BBQ dinner at Poplar Flats for the WTA crew working on trails. DIRECTIONS: Follow the Twisp River Road for 11-11.5 miles until you leave the pavement and start onto dirt road (just after you  pass the turnoff on the left at Mystery to the TR Horse Camp). Poplar Flats campground is about 2 miles further on. There is a campground road sign and Poplar Flat is on the left clearly marked. Please bring your favorite dish to share with the WTA’s hardworking volunteers! We need MVBCH members (with food!) to help make this BBQ a success!  

(Th) Jun 7  Regular Business Meeting & Spring Ride “Thank You” Pot Luck party at Ann  Port’s @ 4 pm. Spring Ride "Thank You" party and MVBCH Business Meeting will be at Ann Port's home. DIRECTIONS: Ann’s address is 1043 Twisp River Road. To find it, go up Twisp River Road 10.4 miles; turn left into her driveway and head for the river (just past her house after you turn into the driveway). Meat will be provided by the chapter and it's Pot Luck so bring your favorite dish and your beverage of choice, a chair to relax in, and your party face, but leave your horse at home! (Sat) Jun 9  TAilgate/Rendezvous ride and BBQ with Gina/Dave Johnston and DK/Stacey Williams. Contacts: DK/Stacey (360-676-1319 or dkwilliams49@gmail.com), Gina/David (907-223-4755)Ride out at 1:00 pm from 293 Rendezvous Road and we’ll return about 5 pm. We look forward to having you all here with a great ride exploring some of the new trail system on Lewis Butte along with trails around Riser Lake. BBQ to follow the ride is provided by the Johnstons and Williams along with Lost River Wines and other selected beverages. If you would like to bring salads and other appetizers, that would be a great addition. There will be a Horseshoe tournament plus a raffle for many great items after the BBQ!  All proceeds from the ride will be donated to the 4H Equine club to help with expenses of the Rodeo Queen and her court. DIRECTIONS: Drive 2.93 miles up the Rendezvous Road; turn left at the “Alliance Life Ring”; proceed up the hill to location. Parking will be well marked and provided at the monitor barn 3/4 mile up driveway as well as at the lower lot about 1/8 mile up the driveway. Non-riders are always welcome to join in the food and fun, but please, no dogs.
 
(Sat) Jun 16  Finley Canyon Work Party. Contact: Suzan Davis (509-341-4013). This is a work party to clear/re-build a trail; this is not a ride. Meet at 9:00 a.m. Bring: Shovels, rakes, picks, saws and loppers. Wear work gloves and boots (some of the terrain can be quite muddy), and bring YOUR LUNCH and a chair, and plenty of water to drink while working! DIRECTIONS: Go about 2.5 miles up Finley Canyon Road until you see a small lake (pond) on your right. There are places to park along the road and in a small parking lot next to the lake. Suzan will give us updates on the conditions and what we’ll need in the June newsletter. Questions? Contact Suzan for more information.

(Sat) Jun 23 Twisp River Horse Camp Clean-up Work Party. Contact: Bill Ford (509-997-0133). Meet at 9:00 a.m. DIRECTIONS: Follow Twisp River Road to just before the pavement ends. Take a left to cross the river at Mystery camp ground. Direction signs for both Mystery camp ground and TR Horse Camp are on the sign at the junction. Bring gloves, shovels, rakes and loppers for general camp clean up. Bring lunch! Qustions? Contact Bill Ford.

(Sun) Jun 30 Welcome pot luck dinner for HotShot Crew—Steve Darwood’s camp, W Chewuch Rd. TENTATIVE DATE! Contact: Cathy Upper (509-429-2955). Help our President Cathy and other members welcome the BCHW Andrews Creek Hot Shot crew for a great meal on Saturday evening. Cathy will be setting up the dinner at 5:30 near Darwood's corrals (just before the Andrews Creek bridge). Please contact Cathy for more info and find out how you can help. 

(Wed) July 4  MVBCH chapter pot luck BBQ. Contact: Carol Hebert (509-997-3056). Meet at the Twisp River Horse Camp after the 4th of the July parade in Twisp. Or, start celebrating a little early and join other members who will be camping there for a couple of days before the 4th. Joe and Carol will bring the grill and polish sausages for the BBQ, so bring something to share for the rest of the meal on the 4th. Plus, bring your own chairs and plates, forks, knives, etc. Call Carol for more information.

(Sat-Wed) July 21-25      BCHW State Wide Work Party in Icicle Canyon (Blackpine Horse Camp). Contact: Jason Ridlon 509-964-9260 or go to 2018 Events at BCHW.org.

(Wed-Fri) Jul 25-27  Loup Loup Campout. Contact: Ann Port (509-997-5491). DIRECTIONS: Meet near the gravel pit at the planned Loup Loup/North Summit horse camp. Go eastbound on HWY 20 and turn left (west) towards the Loup Loup ski bowl. Go about 1/4 mile then turn right into the gravel parking area. Camping area is toward the back and to the left. Restroom is available and some high lines.  BRING DRINKING WATER FOR BOTH YOU AND YOUR HORSES—THERE IS NO WATER AVAILABLE. We will ride out about 10:30 am Thursday the 26th, but plan to ride all three days if you want. Beautiful views and cooler temps, a great place to enjoy ourselves and have time to relax. Plan to share a late lunch around the fire pit after Thursday’s ride. Ann will make us a camp breakfast Friday morning—Yes!! The trails are mostly old logging roads with some single track trails. Easy riding for finding your own way around, so bring that green horse and rider! Please call Ann to let her know if you will be there.
